Annotation: If you’re new to teaching preschool or prekindergarten, this may be a helpful book which is filled with book lists and photographs of literacy-rich early childhood classrooms. The first chapter provides an overview of research and a rationale for developmentally appropriate literacy practices with young children and providing a literacy-rich classroom environment. Chapters 8, 11 and 12 provide helpful tips for writing centers, as well as ways to weave writing into centers (art, block, computer, listening, science and puppet centers) as well as outdoor activities. The authors (p. 9) describe six different ways to use this book as part of a professional book study.
