INCORPORATING STUDENT VOICE:

PORTFOLIOS AND STUDENT-LED CONFERENCES

Bonnie Campbell Hill will present ideas about using portfolios to invite students into the assessment process and to encourage self-evaluation and goal-setting. She will share ideas about how to help students select portfolio entries and encourage thoughtful reflection on an on-going basis. She will provide forms for student reflection and student-led conferences and show examples of student portfolios at various grade levels. She will also discuss electronic portfolios and Learner Profiles that provide ways to capture growth over time. The emphasis is on practical ideas that have proven successful in K-8 classrooms.

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

• develop a plan for implementing and organizing portfolios
• understand the connection between portfolio, standards, and assessment
• create ways to link instruction to assessment and portfolios
• encourage self-evaluation and goal-setting with students
• explore the possibilities for electronic portfolios and Learner Profiles
